Summary
About Beyond Type 1
Beyond Type 1 is a global nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of those impacted by diabetes. Co-founded in 2015 by Nick Jonas, Juliet De Baubigny and fellow diabetes change-makers, Beyond Type 1 serves the largest digital audience of any diabetes nonprofit worldwide. From awareness and prevention to diagnosis and daily management, we’re here for every step of the journey.
With a mission to help people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes survive, thrive and collectively drive innovation toward prevention and cures, Beyond Type 1 offers bold, unfiltered support through education, community engagement and self-advocacy, ensuring their voices are heard and valued in spaces that inspire change. We meet people where they are—providing practical tools, community connection and direct funding—while working to dismantle stigma and systemic barriers to care, domestically and internationally.
By uniting the global diabetes community across all types, backgrounds and geographies, we’re changing what it means to live with diabetes and creating a path to a world beyond it.
PURPOSE OF THIS RFP
Beyond Type 1 is seeking to engage an experienced 1099 contractor or boutique purpose driven agency to serve as a Strategic Partnerships Advisor who is a flexible, outcomes-driven collaborator that will allow us to accelerate our corporate partnerships pipeline immediately while maintaining agility within our team structure.
The selected partner will work in close collaboration with our SVP, Growth & Partnerships and the team at large, including senior leadership like our President, who will also be actively engaged in outreach and cultivation with a shared mandate to build and close a qualified pipeline of corporate partners, with particular emphasis on out-of-industry opportunities.
SCOPE OF WORK
Pipeline Development & Outbound Prospecting
- Lead outbound prospecting and top-of-funnel outreach to build a qualified pipeline of prospective corporate partners
- Prioritize out-of-industry opportunities, including consumer brands, wellness, food & beverage, beauty, and adjacent sectors
- Bring existing relationships and/or the demonstrated ability to forge new ones quickly at senior and C-suite levels
- Support sponsorship outreach for our Q4 fundraising gala (Beyond Limits) event and our stigma-busting general population Q3-Q4 campaign (“The Beyond Type”) as near-term pipeline priorities
Proposal Development & Deal Structuring
- Develop and refine partnership proposals in close collaboration with our internal team
- Identify and pursue six- and seven-figure opportunities, structuring deals that deliver mutual value
- Design innovative, mission-forward partnership models that go beyond transactional sponsorships
Deal Execution & Handoff
- Drive partnership conversations through negotiation and close
- Transition closed accounts to our internal Partner Management team for activation and long-term stewardship
- Maintain rigorous pipeline tracking via Salesforce or equivalent CRM
Strategic Alignment
- Work collaboratively and in close alignment with our internal team, functioning as a true partner rather than a transactional vendor
- Collaborate cross-functionally with our Marketing and Social Impact & Global Advocacy teams as needed
- Provide regular reporting on pipeline status and revenue forecasts to leadership
Ideal Profile
Beyond Type 1 is looking for a contractor or boutique purpose driven agency that brings a demonstrated track record of closing six- and seven-figure corporate partnerships and multi-year commitments on behalf of nonprofit or mission-driven organizations, owning the process from prospecting through close.
The right partner will come with existing networks and relationships in one or more of our priority sectors: consumer brands, CPG, healthcare, or technology. Expertise in cause marketing and corporate-nonprofit partnership models is essential. Experience working with brands in the wellness, beauty, or food & beverage space is a particular advantage given our target pipeline.
We are looking for a partner who can operate with a high degree of autonomy while working in close alignment with Beyond Type 1 senior leadership, who will be actively engaged alongside this partner in outreach and cultivation. The ability to represent our organization externally with credibility, warmth, and a clear understanding of our mission is as important as commercial acumen.
We are particularly interested in hearing from contractors or firms who have navigated complex, multi-year partnership structures and who bring both relationship depth and rigorous business development discipline to their work.
To focus responses, please note we are not seeking:
- Full-time staff or W-2 freelance arrangements
- Large agencies or firms without a dedicated, named point of contact who will own this work
- General marketing, brand strategy, or communications agencies without a dedicated partnership-closing function
- Firms that operate primarily as referral sources without end-to-end deal support
- Agencies focused solely on digital, influencer, or media campaigns
Proposal Submission Requirements
Please include the following in your response:
- Firm / Practice Overview — size, structure, and relevant areas of focus
- Relevant Experience — examples of partnerships sourced, structured, and closed on behalf of nonprofit or mission-driven clients; deal sizes and sectors (anonymized if needed)
- Proposed Approach — how you would build and manage a pipeline for Beyond Type 1; any existing networks relevant to our priority sectors
- Structure & Pricing — proposed compensation model (retainer, performance-based, or hybrid); named point of contact; estimated timeline to first pipeline activity
- References — two to three references from comparable engagements
Process + Timeline
Beyond Type 1 will evaluate all proposals on a rolling basis based on the following timeline:
This engagement will be ongoing for 6 months to start, with a mutual review to be scheduled at the conclusion of both 3 months and 6 months, to assess the partnership and continuation.
